Social Impact Assessments
Tony Barbour conducts Social Impact Assessments (SIAs) for a variety of projects, including large infrastructure projects (dams, pipelines, roads and transmission lines), mining projects, landfill sites, renewable energy projects (wind and solar energy), industrial projects, and urban development projects (shopping centres, mixed use developments, and housing projects)
Tony has project managed several Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEA) in Southern Africa, including the SEA of the City of Cape Town’s bid to host the 2000 Olympic Games (the first time an SEA was undertaken for an Olympic bid).
Tony conducts independent reviews of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Social Impact Assessments (SIAs), Environmental Management Plans and other environmental documents.
Tony specialises in the development and implementation of environmental training and capacity building programmes with a focus on Social Impact Assessments (SIA), Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEA) and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA).
Identification and assessment of local and regional landfill sites is one of Tony’s areas of expertise. Previous projects include local and regional landfill sites in Southern Africa, Oman and Mauritius.
Tony specialises in research linked to environmental issues and sustainability, and is often approached for his input and advice with regard to the design and management of environmental assessments, including public consultation programmes.
